OPPORTUNITIES IN THE UY LAB

LAB AND LOCAL FIELD WORK

Students at the University of Miami can get involved in several projects on campus.

For instance, for students interested in molecular work, we have several projects that use molecular genetics to understand the evolutionary history of several avian lineages, as well as to uncover the genetic basis of biologically important traits (e.g., plumage color). We also use molecular tools to assign paternity to nestlings, and relatedness among adult birds. Students will be trained in standard molecular genetic techniques (e.g., PCR, DNA extraction, etc.). For details contact Al

For details on the projects, go the our Research website.

Ellen & Megan

Megan Hirshberg, an Honors student, helps Ellen in the field.

My goal is to involve students in all aspects of research. Students are expected to develop their projects. If the results prove to be interesting and robust, students will co-author a manuscript for peer-reviewed publications. In addition, I expect students to be involved in our weekly lab meetings, because exposure to these meetings is an invaluable training tool. Students can work in our lab for research credits.
